WACE ATAR Calculator 2026: Estimate Your WA ATAR

Type in your scaled scores. You get your Tertiary Entrance Aggregate with the 10% bonus and your ATAR from TISC's 2025 TEA to ATAR relationship, with the working shown.

Loading the calculator.

How it works: TISC adds your best four scaled scores, plus 10% of your scaled scores in Mathematics Methods and Mathematics Specialist and 10% of your best language, into a Tertiary Entrance Aggregate (TEA) out of 430. The TEA is then turned into an ATAR. This calculator reads the ATAR from TISC's own 2025 TEA to ATAR results. The method for every state is in how the ATAR is calculated.

WACE ATAR key facts (2025 data)

  • Formula: best four scaled scores + 10% of Mathematics Methods, Mathematics Specialist and your best language. Maximum TEA 430.
  • The average scaled score across all courses is 60. Four scaled scores of 60 with no bonus gave an ATAR of 80.90.
  • A TEA of about 270 reached 90.00 and about 296 reached 95.00.
  • 10,265 school leavers received an ATAR and 18 received 99.95.
  • The 10% bonus applied in 2025. Its removal is postponed to 2027 at the earliest.

What to type in

Enter your scaled score out of 100 for each ATAR course. Scaled scores come from the marks adjustment process run by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) and TISC, and they appear with your results. Many schools also give students estimated scaled scores during Year 12.

Do not add up raw marks. TISC itself warns that adding four scores based on raw subject marks does not give an accurate TEA and can be misleading. If you only know your raw marks, the WACE scaling 2025 page shows where scaled scores fell for each course in 2025, which helps you make a realistic estimate.

How your WA ATAR is worked out

  1. Combined marks. SCSA moderates your school assessment against exam results and combines the two into a combined mark for each course.
  2. Scaling. The combined marks are standardised and then scaled jointly by TISC and SCSA. After scaling, the average scaled score across all courses is 60.
  3. The TEA. TISC adds your best four scaled scores. If you have scaled scores in Mathematics Methods, Mathematics Specialist or a language other than English, 10% of each is added on top, even when that course is not in your best four. Only your highest language attracts the bonus. The highest possible TEA in 2025 was 430.
  4. The ATAR. TISC assigns ATARs based on the share of WA's school-leaving age population taking at least four ATAR courses.

TEA: 72 + 70 + 68 + 65 + 7 + 6 = 288. TISC's 2025 result for a TEA of 288 is an ATAR of 93.75. Without the two bonuses the TEA would be 275, an ATAR of about 91. That is why the bonus matters for WA students who take these courses.

TEA needed for common ATARs in 2025

ATARTEA (2025)
99.00about 349
95.00about 296
90.00about 270
80.00about 238
70.00about 216
60.00about 198
50.00about 179

These are the lowest whole-number TEAs that reached each ATAR in TISC's results for 2025 completers. A TEA of 300 gave 95.55, 250 gave 84.45 and 200 gave 61.50.

Where scaled scores sat in 2025

From TISC's 2025 course statistics (mean and median scaled score):

  • Mathematics Specialist: mean 69.2, median 69.4
  • Mathematics Methods: mean 64.6, median 64.8. Literature: mean 64.2
  • Chemistry: mean 63.2. Physics: mean 62.7. Economics: mean 59.1
  • English: mean 57.8. Biology: mean 57.3. Psychology: mean 56.8. Mathematics Applications: mean 55.3

The full table with the 25th, 50th, 75th and 90th percentiles for every course is on the WACE scaling 2025 page.

Is the 10% bonus staying?

The bonus applied to 2025 ATARs and is included in this calculator. TISC planned to remove it, then postponed the removal to 2027 at the earliest, and published a further update on its proposal on 26 March 2026. If you will finish Year 12 in 2027 or later, check TISC for the rules in your year. We track this on WA ATAR bonus changes.

WA results in numbers (2025)

TISC reported that 10,265 school leavers received an ATAR in 2025, up from 9,992 in 2024, and 18 received the maximum of 99.95.

Four scaled scores, no bonus

For a student with the same scaled score in four courses and no Methods, Specialist or language bonus, TISC's 2025 results give:

Scaled score in all fourTEAATAR (2025)
5020061.50
5522072.00
6024080.90
6526087.50
7028092.30
7530095.55

Because scaling sets the average scaled score at 60, a student who is average in every course has an ATAR of about 81. The ATAR compares you with your whole age group, and many people your age do not take four ATAR courses.

What one course can change

Starting from the worked example (TEA 288, ATAR 93.75):

ChangeTEAATAR
Starting point28893.75
Drop French (no language bonus)28292.65
English 65 up to 7529895.30
Mathematics Methods 70 up to 8029995.45

Ten scaled points in Methods add 11 to the TEA, because the bonus rises with the score. The French bonus is worth about 1.1 ATAR points even though French is not in the best four.

B: no bonus coursesPsychology 62, Human Biology 60, English 58, Geography 57, Mathematics Applications 56237None23779.65

Student A earns two maths bonuses worth 14.7 TEA points, which lifts the ATAR by about 2.5. English is not in A's best four, which is allowed: unlike NSW and Victoria, WA does not force English into the TEA. Student B is a little below the average scaled score of 60 in most courses and lands near 80.

Common mistakes with WACE ATAR calculators

  • Adding raw or school marks. TISC warns this gives a misleading TEA. Use scaled scores.
  • Claiming the bonus for two languages. Only your highest language attracts the 10% bonus.
  • Forgetting the bonus outside the best four. Methods, Specialist and a language earn the bonus even when they are not among your best four.
  • Assuming the bonus rules for later years. They applied in 2025. Check WA ATAR bonus changes if you finish in 2027 or later.
  • Using General or Foundation courses. Only ATAR courses with a scaled score count.

The reverse ATAR calculator shows the scaled score you would need in each course for a target ATAR.

How accurate is this WACE calculator?

The last step matches TISC. We sampled TISC's own TEA to ATAR results for 2025 at 286 TEA points, and the calculator reads them directly: a TEA of 288 returns 93.75, the same as TISC. The TEA itself is simple addition plus the bonus, so if your scaled scores are right, your 2025 ATAR is right.

The uncertainty is in the inputs. Before results, scaled scores are estimates, and moderation and scaling can move them by several points. 2026 scaling and the 2026 TEA to ATAR relationship will also differ slightly from 2025. A realistic margin before results is about two ATAR points either way.

WACE ATAR calculator FAQ

Can I use raw marks in this calculator?

No. The TEA is built from scaled scores, and raw or school marks can be far from your scaled score. Use the scaled scores from your results or your school's estimates.

Does the bonus count if Methods is not in my best four?

Yes. In 2025, 10% of your Methods, Specialist and best language scaled scores was added whether or not those courses were in your best four.

Is the WA LOTE bonus part of the ATAR or only the selection rank?

It is part of the TEA, so it changes your ATAR itself. That is different from university adjustment factors, which only change your selection rank.

Can I get a 95 ATAR in WACE with four ATAR courses?

Yes, if your scaled scores are high enough. In 2025 a TEA of about 296 reached 95.00, for example four scaled scores averaging 74 with no bonus.

What scaled score meets university English competence?

A scaled score of 50 or more in English, Literature or EAL/D met the English competence requirement for all WA universities in 2025. Other routes exist from 2025.

Is this the TISC calculator?

No. It is independent. TISC's own calculator converts a final TEA into an ATAR for past years and TISC does not endorse prediction tools. We use TISC's 2025 TEA to ATAR results so the last step matches TISC exactly.

What is the average scaled score in WACE?

60. Scaling sets the average across all courses at 60, and four scaled scores of 60 with no bonus gave an ATAR of 80.90 in 2025.

Does Mathematics Specialist get the bonus as well as Methods?

Yes. In 2025, 10% of each was added, so a student with both earns two maths bonuses, plus a language bonus if they take one.

What TEA do I need for a 90 ATAR in WA?

About 270 in 2025. That is four scaled scores averaging about 67.5, or less if you earn a bonus.
